Top Ten Metal Bands
I understand that discussion about heavy metal and its variants is actually very sensitive because there are loads of metal bands and everyone have their own opinions about them. This particular list discusses ten heavy metal bands that in our opinion take the top spots which means that there is a possibility that your favorite bands are probably not a part of this list. Again, your opinions are welcome and there is absolutely no reason for you to feel bad. For most part though, I hope you will agree with us. Enjoy the read!
10. ANTHRAX
This band comes from New York City, United States. It is a Thrash Metal band that was formed in the year 1981 by Scott Ian and Danny Lilker. They have released ten studio albums and their current band members include Scott Ian, Charlie Benante, Frank Bello, Joey Belladonna and Rob Caggiano. Their first studio album was released in the year 1984 and it was called ‘Fistful of Metal’. Their latest album came out in 2011 called ‘Worship Music’.
9. DISTURBED
I am sure many of you will agree when I say that this band in particular has been really good from the start. This is an American rock band and it was formed in the year 1996. This band comes from Chicago, Illinois. They have remained active till the year 2011 and though they didn’t come out with many studio albums their songs were surprisingly melodious. Their members include David Draiman, Dan Donegan, Jon Moyer and Mike Wengren. Their first album came out in the year 2000 and it was called The Sickness. They have released five studio albums and the latest came out in 2010 called ‘Asylum’. Apart from the first album the other four have topped the Billboard.
8. MOTORHEAD
Motorhead is an English heavy metal band. They were formed in the year 1975 by Ian Fraser Kilmister. He is more commonly known as Lemmy. They are into Heavy, Speed and Thrash Metal. Their current band members include Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister, Phil ‘Wizzo’ Campbell and Mikkey Dee. They have come up with around 21 studio albums. The first album, Motorhead, came out in the year 1977. Their latest album came out recently in the year 2010. It was called ‘The World is Yours’.
7. PANTERA
Pantera comes from Arlington, Texas. This is an American heavy metal band that was formed by the Abbott brothers in the year 1981. They remained active till the year 2003. They were into Groove, Thrash, Heavy and Glam Metal. They came out with nine studio albums with the first one coming out in the year 1983. It was called ‘Metal Magic’ and their final album came out in the year 2000. It was called ‘Reinventing the Steel’. Unfortunately, this band is inactive now which is sad for Pantera fans all over the world.
6. SLAYER
Loads of my friends love this particular band but again I am not a very big follower. This is an American heavy metal band formed in California. The band got together in 1981, all thanks to the guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. They are into Thrash and Speed Metal and their band members include Tom Araya, Jeff Hanneman, Kerry King and Dave Lombardo. They have released eleven studio albums with the first one coming out in the year 1983. It was called ‘Show No Mercy’ and the latest album from the band came out in the year 2009. It was called ‘World Painted Blood’.
5. BLACK SABBATH
To be honest I have never really like this band for some reason but I am sure loads of you out there are flat out in love with these guys. This is another English rock band from Birmingham. It was formed in 1969. They are into heavy metal and their band members include Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler. They have released around eighteen studio albums. The first one came out in the year 1970 and was called ‘Black Sabbath’. The latest album was released in 1995 and it was called Forbidden.
4. JUDAS PRIEST
I was introduced to this a long time after I started listening to this genre. This is a British heavy metal band that comes from Birmingham. The band was formed in the year 1969. They are into Heavy and Speed Metal. Their current band members include Ian Hill, Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, Scott Travis and Richie Faulkner. They have released around sixteen studio albums with the first one released in the year 1974 called ‘Rocka Rolla’. The latest album from Judas Priest was released in 2008 called ‘Nostradamus’.
3. IRON MAIDEN
If it were up to me alone, I would put this band at the first place. By far my favorite band, Iron Maiden is an English heavy metal band and they come from Leyton. The band was formed in the year 1975 by Steve Harris. Their current members include Steve Harris, Davy Murray, Adrian Smith, Bruce Dickinson, Nicko McBrain and Janick Gers. Interesting thing about this band is that the lead singer is actually a pilot and they tour on their own Boeing. They have released around fifteen studio albums starting with Iron Maiden in 1980.
2. AC/DC
The second spot is taken by AC/DC which is a very famous rock band from Australia. This particular band was formed in the year 1973 by two brothers called Malcolm and Anugus Young. They are into Hard Rock, Blues Rock and Rock n Roll. They are currently active and their band members include Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Cliff Williams, Brian Johnson and Phil Rudd. They have released around sixteen different albums starting with the first one in 1975 called ‘High Voltage’. Their latest album to be released was ‘Black Ice’.
1. METALLICA
At the top of the list we have Metallica which is an American Heavy Metal band. They come from Los Angeles, California. They are into heavy metal, thrash metal, speed metal and hard rock. Metallica was formed in the year 1981 and they are still active. Their band consists of James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo. So far, they have released around nine studio albums starting with the first one in 1983 called ‘Kill ‘Em All’. Their latest studio album is called Death Magnetic. I remember the first song I ever heard from them was ‘Master of Puppets’.
